Transport – closer than you think

Wherever you are in the world, you will find Stockholm easily accessible. Most of Europe is reachable by train and within three hours by air. It is a key hub for flights to major destinations in the Baltic Sea Region, the European Union, and the rest of the world. Stockholm is truly a great meeting point – in every sense.

A green travel policy should be implemented for the IUFRO World Congress 2024 in Stockholm. The policy should identify and promote ways to encourage a range of sustainable, or more environmentally friendly transport modes.

Based on Nordic environmental policy on travelling, the policy is suggested to be developed in collaboration with Stockholm city, the IUFRO member organizations and the transport sectors in the region.

Public transport is excellent in Stockholm, so getting around is easy. The city’s extensive and well-organized transport infra- structure includes an underground network, commuter trains and buses, as well as numerous private transport companies. Subsidised travel cards, with special rates for delegates and students, can be used on all public transport/routes.

Located in the southwest of the city, Stockholmsmässan Exhibition & Congress Centre is easy to reach by public trans- port or taxi. The centre has connections to a variety of public transport, and a direct link to the motorway.

From the Central Station/T-Centralen, it is just 10 minutes by commuter train to Älvsjö Station. During peak-hours (07.00–09.00 and 16.00–18.00) there is a train every 5th mi- nute. It is also possible to go by commuter train all the way from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Stockholmsmässan. The trains depart twice an hour and the travel time is 47 minutes. From the train station it is just a few minutes’ walk to Stock- holmsmässan.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport is the primary gateway to Stockholm and Sweden. Nearly 70 airlines serve non-stop routes to 160 international destinations. Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) and Norwegian offer the largest number of non- stop flight connections from Stockholm to international desti- nations. Once you arrive, it is just a 20-minute journey into the city centre with the Arlanda Express train.

The Arlanda Express Train provides a shuttle service between Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Central Station. The journey takes 20 minutes with trains departing every 15 minutes. The train platform is easily accessible, underneath the arrivals terminal. Arlanda Express offers special rates for congress delegates.

It is also possible to use the regular commuter train service to travel to and from Arlanda airport and Stockholm Central Station. Trains depart twice an hour and the travel time is 38 minutes. In addition, there is a coach-service between Arlanda

Airport and the City Terminal, located next to the Central Station and departing every 10–15 minutes. The travel time   is 35–40 minutes. Taxi and limousine services are available  at fixed rates. Travel time: 35–50 minutes, depending on time of day.
